Ingredients

  1. 1 ripe avocado

  2. 2 slices of your favorite bread (sourdough, whole grain, rye, etc.)

  3. Salt, to taste

  4. Pepper, to taste

  5. 1 teaspoon lemon or lime juice (optional)

  6. Red pepper flakes or chili flakes (optional, for a kick)

  7. Olive oil or butter (optional, for the bread)

  8. Optional toppings: sliced radishes, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, poached or fried egg, etc.

Preparation

  1. Toast the bread slices to your preferred level of crispiness.

  2. While the bread is toasting, cut the avocado in half. Remove the seed and scoop out the flesh into a bowl.

  3. Mash the avocado using a fork. If you prefer a chunkier texture, don’t mash it too much.

  4. Mix in the lemon or lime juice to prevent browning and give it a tangy flavor.

  5. Spread a thin layer of butter or drizzle some olive oil on the toasted bread.

  6. Spread the mashed avocado generously on each toast slice.

  7. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with chili flakes if you're using them.

  8. Add any additional toppings you prefer.

  9. Serve immediately and enjoy!
